Florida, Hawaii, Cancun. Spring break is here and some students are off to warmer destinations.
“I’m going to Florida for the track team,” Chloe Knauer, freshman youth and sports ministries major said. “We’re going to train, have a meet, and mess around.”
While some are fleeing Ohio’s winter weather, others are staying behind.
“I’m poor and I didn’t take the time to plan anything,” Naomi Fetzer, sophomore nursing major said.
Although spring break is quickly approaching it is not too late to plan a last minute trip. There are many spring break attractions and activities nearby.
Kalahari Indoor Waterpark
Kalahari Indoor Waterpark offers all the splash associated with spring break without the trip to the beach. The waterpark is located in Sandusky, Ohio, just under two hours from campus. According to their website, Kalahari is “America’s Largest Indoor Waterpark.” There are an assortment of attractions including a wave pool, lazy river, raft rides, and water slides. The waterpark has hours of operation for all of spring break.
Castaway Bay is another waterpark located in Sandusky, Ohio. They claim to keep the waterpark’s temperature at 82 degrees every day and the facility
has a tropical Caribbean theme. The waterpark offers a wave pool and various slides. Castaway is open during various hours on March 2-4 and March 7-10.
If you are looking to take a trip, but did not make plans for a tropical destination, there are several big cities that you can drive to from Malone in around seven hours or less. Pittsburgh is about a two hour drive from Malone, Chicago is about a six hour drive, and Philadelphia and New York City both take about seven hours to reach.
Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad
There are several weekend activities to do in the area during spring break. Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad allows you to view Cuyahoga Valley National Park from a passenger rail car. A round trip last around three hours. They currently have a weekend only tour.
Malabar Farm State Park
Malabar Farm State Park offers camping and hiking trails throughout the year. During the weekends of spring break, March 2-3 and March 9-10, the park will be having their free Maple Syrup Family Festival. Malabar Farm State Park is located in Lucas, Ohio, near Mansfield.
