Breaking Social Norms Destroys Normality

Society has millions of informally established rules that are simply learned from interacting in a particular social context. Social norms represent the glue that holds together the normality of our day to day lives. Since social norms are usually expected and followed, it was very difficult to find anyone to participate in the making of this video. When I asked people if they would break some sort of a social norm for me, they usually declined the offer right away. This just goes to prove that social norms make us comfortable, and life would be full of chaos if we ignored their existence.     Emily Cowen is the video editor for The Aviso AVW.   Print This Article Print This Article
