King’s hiring marks big step forward for university

On behalf of the rest of the Aviso AVW staff, I would like to congratulate Dr. David King on recently being named the next president of Malone University.

The decision-making process leading up to the event was a long one, but it seems to have been well worth the wait. Dr. King comes to Malone with an accomplished background at Eastern University, where he recently served as provost.

Managing/news editor Chelsea Weikart and I had the opportunity to speak to Dr. King yesterday afternoon in a lengthy phone interview. Dr. King was kind enough to take time out of his schedule to talk with us. We both walked away from the conversation impressed with Dr. King’s demeanor and communication skills, both of which make him an ideal candidate for the job.

It’s not often that students get to welcome a new president to campus. In fact, only 12 other individuals have served as president of Malone in it’s 119-year history.

King will be visiting campus several times before taking over full-time this January, where he will be transitioning to a new job in the middle of the academic year. Students should take the opportunity to say hello and introduce themselves and make Dr. King’s transition as smooth as possible.

Aviso AVW would also like to thank Dr. Will Friesen for his excellent service as interim president. Several staff members have had the chance to sit down with Dr. Friesen over the past year and a half, and he has always been gracious and forthcoming. We do not yet know whether Dr. Friesen will be staying at Malone or in what capacity, but whatever the case, we would like to congratulate him on a job well done and wish him well for the future.

Fall is a time of change, and there are certainly some big changes taking place here at Malone. The hiring of Dr. King is a big step for the university going forward, and we wish him the best of luck as he prepares to join us soon.
