19-year-old freshman accounting major Dustin Yoder died unexpectedly in his home on Sunday, Nov. 13.

The news was announced to students on Tuesday, Nov. 15 during chapel and then later that day in an e-mail. During chapel, there was a commemorative moment of silence and prayer for the Yoder family and friends.

Yoder, an accounting major, was a first semester freshman after transferring from Goshen College. Yoder was commuting from Mount Eaton, Ohio. According to The Daily Record (Wooster), he was a graduate of Central Christian High School in Kidron, Ohio.

“Although not all the particulars are known around Dustin’s death, our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends,” Vice President of Student Development Chris Abrams said.

“Although this was Dustin’s first semester as a Malone student, we know that his death impacts the community and we pray for those here closest to Dustin,” he said.

Students were invited via e-mail to attend his funeral services at Kidron Mennonite Church, where Yoder was an active part of the youth group and church body.
