Music ministry team New Vision will be showcasing its talents at an upcoming Canton Charge basketball game downtown at the Civic Center on Dec. 10. The special event, called Faith and Family Night, will feature the Canton Charge, a new NBA Development League team, facing off against the Maine Red Claws at 7 p.m. New Vision will be performing at halftime as well as in a concert immediately following the game.
New Vision has put together a wide selection of songs for the event, encompassing the styles of gospel and Contemporary Christian. They will incorporate traditional hymns, patriotic tunes and secular favorites as well.
“We are very excited,” Darius McBride, a first-year member of the group, said. “I believe that this may be one of the biggest events New Vision ever done.”
The six-member music ministry team is comprised of McBride, a freshman music education major; Caitlin Pickard, a junior integrated language arts major; Rebecca Fiecoat, a freshman middle childhood education major; Savannah Ford, a junior nursing major; Halle St. John, a sophomore communication arts major; and Aaron Woods, a freshman business administration major.
Regardless of their year or focus of study, being a member of New Vision requires a flexible schedule and time to devote to rehearsals and performances. But according to McBride, being in New Vision requires more than just a commitment to the group: It requires a commitment to God.
“Beyond the rehearsals and the singing and the business, at the end of the day, it’s all about Him,” he said.
In addition to performing live nearly every week as a means of ministry, New Vision has branched into studio recording as well. Their latest offering, Rejoice!, was recorded at Gaither Studios and was released on Dec.. 1.
Faith and Family Night will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Canton Memorial Civic Center on Market Avenue North. For more information regarding pricing and event details, visit the Canton Charge website at CantonCharge.com.
