The Aviso AVW has been presented with the 2012 Award of Excellence in the Campus (Digital) category by the Evangelical Press Association (EPA). This award follows a finalist nomination for the Associated Collegiate Press 2012 Online Pacemaker Award as well as the first place honor as the Best Collegiate Newspaper Website from the Ohio Newspaper Association in February.
The Aviso AVW made its transition from print to web at the beginning of the 2010 school year based on a decision by student media and the communication arts department to make it more available to the student body, according to Dixon.
Former editor-in-chief of the 2011-12 school year, Jesse Peek, said in the midst of negative feedback on the transition from print to web, it is encouraging to be recognized.
“Malone as a whole should be proud.” Peek said.
Samantha Shaffer, 2012-13 editor-in-chief, sees this award as a positive start to the school year.
“I’m excited about the award because even though we are a small school, we can accomplish a lot and be recognized for it,” Shaffer said.
The EPA is a professional association which serves and judges Christian publications at all levels, including Christianity Today. The Aviso AVW joined the EPA last year and submitted the website to be considered for judging.
