Wellness Center brings fitness bootcamp to campus

 

The Wellness Center is giving students more opportunities to exercise. F.O.C.U.S.E.D. Boot Camp and outFIT are two new programs beginning this fall.

Boot Camp is a high intensity circuit workout program led by personal trainer and Malone graduate Rollen Smith designed to get participants’ heart rates up.

“We’re gonna hit it real quick and real fast,” said Smith, “they’re gonna feel it.”

Smith said that students should expect different workouts each week with the use of plyometric as well as fitness equipment in the wellness center. If students don’t know how to use the equipment this is a great opportunity to learn.

Smith said Boot Camp will be a high energy atmosphere with music going and a great way to change up work out routines.

It will meet every Saturday at 10 a.m. in the first floor of the Wellness Center. The first class will be on Sept. 22. Cost is $5 per class.

For an alternative workout routine, outFIT is an outdoors fitness challenge program led by fitness blogger and personal trainer Clare Smith.

Accoridng to C. Smith, outFIT will be an outdoor cardio class with the use of minimal equipment. Students should expect the class to consist of sprints, hill runs, body weight exercises and drills. She also said students should expect to get dirty.

C. Smith explained outFIT is a unique opportunity for students that is special to Malone because a lot of other colleges don’t offer programs like Boot Camp and outFIT. These programs are the current trend in fitness according to C. Smith.

The outFIT class will meet Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. for four weeks. The first class will be on Sept.24.  The price for both sessions of outFIT per week is $8. The cost of one session a week is $5 per class.

C. Smith said that “[students] should come to these classes to change up their routine, to work out with friends or to get new fitness friends and to get challenged!”

While both programs are open to all students at any fitness level, C. Smith said that a prior base of running will be helpful for outFIT. Modification can be made to both programs.
