Pioneer Focus: Christian Graves

PEDIGREE: The first Pioneer focus of 2013 goes to men’s basketball freshman guard Christian Graves for his strong play off the bench and 3-point shooting.

Throughout the season Graves has been an instrumental addition as a freshman to the 10-7 Pioneers bench scoring as he has averaged 6.5 points in 290 minutes. He has been quite the 3-point shooting specialist as he is averaging a remarkable 45.3 percent from 3-point land.

To put his deadly downtown shooting in perspective, Isiah Elliot, the Pioneers’ leading scorer at 19.6 points per game, shooting percentage from the field is lower than Graves’ 3-point mark at 44.3 percent.

Q: Favorite food?

A: My favorite food is calamari. I am a big lover of seafood.

Q: Favorite athlete?

A: Kevin Durant. He is an absolute beast. I love his game and how he scores, and also I have posters of him in the room.

Q: Something most people don’t know about you?

A: I am ambidextrous, I use both my left and right hand.

Q: Most embarrassing moment?

A: I was at Cedar Point and my friends were in line for a ride and I tried to hop the pole to get in line with them and didn’t quite make it over the pole, and you know the rest. It was easily my most embarrassing moment.

Q: Favorite aspect of basketball?

A: Easily the three point shot. I could watch 3-pointers all day, no joke.

Q: What do you miss most about high school?

A: What I miss most about high school is my senior class. We were easily the closest class ever to come through the school and we still talk from time to time.

Q: Who is your role model and why?

A: My role model is my dad, not for any sports reason, but because I saw how hard he works everyday and so I look up to and respect him.

Q: Best and worst part of college athletics?

A: The best part of college basketball is the traveling with the team and the good times we have together. The worst part is how our breaks are so full of games such as Christmas break.

Q: Least favorite rule at Malone?

A: My least favorite rule at Malone is the 20 mandatory chapels, although you don’t have to go technically. But I don’t want to pay money to walk up and down that hill and right now it is freezing, which makes the walk worse.

Q: Facebook or Twitter?

A: Twitter. If you don’t have a twitter get one. I was never really a Facebooker, though, I really don’t even know how to use it.
