Senate Notebook: January 28

Student Concerns

The request for healthier options in the cafeteria was brought up last semester at Senate’s Open Forum. Co-director of intramurals, Kenzie Berkheimer, looked into the issue and was told that the Wellness Council was not currently interested in pursuing the matter. The issue was tabled.

At the January 23 meeting, a letter written by freshman vice-president Andrea Maier was presented concerning the amount of left-handed desks on campus. The letter explained that right-handed desks are very uncomfortable for left-handed students to use and requested that left-handed desks be placed in each classroom. The letter was reviewed by Senate and approved with minor changes.

Other Business

With spring semester comes preparation for the annual Student Senate elections. In previous years, the election for student body president and vice-president was held separately from elections for the rest of the offices. This year, Senate has decided to do something different. To consolidate the time and work required of the Steering Committee, all elected positions will be voted on in a general election on Tuesday, March 12.

Commuter director Josh White has reinstated free pizza days for commuters after determining that there was enough in the budget this year. White hopes for this to take place every other Wednesday.

Student Senate meetings are held every Wednesday at 9 p.m. in the Brehme Conference Center.
