Pioneer Focus: Janelle Linder

 

PEDIGREE: This week’s Pioneer Focus goes to junior Janelle Linder for her strong performance in aiding the women’s tennis team to a 6-1 record during its spring break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina.

For the week Linder, normally the number four or five player in singles, went 5-2 in her singles matches and 3-2 in her doubles matches. In three of those singles Linder won in straight sets.

Overall the women’s tennis team improved its record with the strong spring break trip to 13-14 overall.

Q: Favorite food?

A: The way to my heart is through anything with chicken in it.

Q: Favorite YouTube video?

A: Oldie but goodie…Grape Lady Falls, gets me every time.

Q: Favorite artist or musician?

A: The Fray and anything and everything Beyonce.

Q: Something most people don’t know about you?

A: That I’m easily approachable; I love getting to know people. And my hair grows ridiculously fast.

Q: Most embarrassing moment?

A: Running into a parked car with my bicycle, I have the dimple to prove it. I was 10 so don’t judge me.

Q: Favorite aspect of tennis?

A: The many aspects of the game; it’s not all physical and skills, but a lot mental too. If your mental game is lacking then the skills don’t matter as much. The toughness all around make this game so enjoyable for me.

Q: Best coach you have ever had?

A: I am super thankful for coach Mogus, my coach now. He is very knowledgeable about the game and pushes me in practice and matches. He expects a lot out of me and sets the standard high for leadership and ability on the team. He also knows the style of coaching I respond to best and is really effective in doing that.

Q: When and what was your best spring break, and why?

A: The spring break we just got back from. Every spring break falls on my birthday so it’s always fun, but this year we played a lot of really great tennis and had a blast bonding together. Our group of men and women get along so well, we’re a big family.

Q: Favorite fast food outlet?

A: Chipotle…take me there please!

Q: Least favorite rule at Malone?

A: Visitation hours

Q: Coolest nickname you have ever received?

A: Nelly Bear when I was younger, and I have recently acquired Chanel #5 (a fine perfume) from my work.

Q: Facebook or Twitter?

A: This might make me old, but Facebook… still getting used to this whole Twitter thing. INSTAGRAM4LIFE!
