When students grow tired of cafeteria food, there are many places near campus for when they want to add more variety to their meals.
“I love Taco Bell,” sophomore mathematics major Keri Johnson said. “It’s my favorite fast food place. I go there whenever I’m bored of the cafeteria food.”
For many students, cheaper is better when dining out. With many fast food restaurants on Cleveland Avenue, a cheap meal is always close by.
“If my mom comes to visit me, we always go to Chipotle because you can’t get anything close to that here,” freshman undecided major Alexis Kreiner said. “If I were to go somewhere, it would be Subway or Panera because I have gift cards and they have salads.”
Even though it is served every day in the dining hall, students also opt for pizza when they skip the dining hall.
“Anywhere is better than AVI on the weekends,” senior computer science major Jeff DeWitt said. “I usually go get pizza or go to another restaurant. CiCi’s is good.”
CiCi’s Pizza, along with Papa John’s, East of Chicago, Little Caesars, and Pizza Hut are all popular pizza options near campus. Several pizza places, including East of Chicago, Papa John’s, and “Your” Pizza Shop, deliver to campus and give a discount to students if they ask about it.
There are also many local options for students who want to sit down and stay awhile.
“My favorite is Olive Garden, but you can’t go wrong with Applebee’s late-night, half-price appetizers,” junior psychology major Julia Barber said.
There are also many great places to go to for dessert and ice cream close to campus.
Taggarts and Milk and Honey both offer ice cream and other sweet treats. For those who enjoy frozen yogurt, Menchie’s is a student favorite.
While eating out might not be the same as a home cooked meal, it can be a nice break from cafeteria food.
