Men’s soccer falls short against rival Walsh University


Pioneer men’s soccer put up a challenging fight last evening against rival Walsh University, but they fell just short of a win with a 1-0 score. It was the second GLIAC game of the early season.

Playing just four miles down Market avenue, the Pioneers aggressively challenged their opponents by posting numerous shots in the first half.

As the two teams battled it out on the field, the Cavaliers scored their only goal with a corner kick by Walsh’s senior Chad Dickerhoof, with only 6 minutes and twenty-five seconds remaining in the first half.

Playing a strong second half, the men’s soccer team put up a good fight as senior goalkeeper Felipe Monteiro was able to snatch a total of eight saves in the game, saving a respectable number of goals.

The Pioneers posted a total of nine shots against its opponent, as Walsh tallied a total of 19 shots of its own.

After last night’s loss, the Pioneers are now at a 1-2 overall season score .  The Pioneers look forward to its long season ahead of them, and hope to regroup themselves for the next game ahead.

The men’s soccer team will compete again against GLIAC opponent Saginaw Valley University (MI) this Friday.
