Senate Notebook: Feb. 3


Senate Notebook is a regular news feature with the goal to keep students up to date on Student Senate. Senate meets every Wednesday at 9 p.m. in the Brehme Conference Center. Guests are welcome to attend.

At the Jan. 21 meeting, three student athletes gave a presentation regarding the new athlete housing policy. They want Malone to grandfather athletes graduating in 2016 and 2017 into the old housing policy. Senate voted almost unanimously to help the presenting athletes draft a proposal to administration.

Senate is looking into having a mobile app made for Malone Xpress.

Two students presented their desire to have concealed carry weapons on campus. They are not interested in carrying the weapons with them, but they do want to keep the weapons locked in their cars. Senate thinks, based on Malone policies, that concealed carry weapons are not allowed at all on campus. The presenting students will investigate further.

Faculty is concerned that students are cheating in online classes by Googling answers and by taking classes in groups. Senate discussed possible solutions to cut back on cheating, which include having tests proctored.
