The Social Work Club is a faith-based organization committed to empowering students to give back to the community by putting academic knowledge into practice. The club’s mission this year is to bring the community of Malone, the Social Work Club and Canton together for fellowship and provide service.
The club is currently putting together homeless bags for Stark County Social Workers’ Network. The bags include toothpaste, foods, hats, gloves and more. Recently, they painted a mural at Salvation Army and worked with United Way at First Friday. The club also has set up babysitting for the Canton community during Christmas and will have it again on Valentine’s Day, where children can be dropped off and enjoy games, arts and crafts, snacks and animals from the Malone zoo.
Kourtni Hall, senior social work major, said, “I love helping the community…It’s just nice to give back to the community even if I am not from here or other members of the club aren’t from [the Canton area].”
Hall and Megan Lee, senior social work major, are co-presidents of the club. Karen Slovak, associate professor of social work, is the advisor. Email Hall or Lee at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com for more information.
